Meet Mrs. Kuhnke
Happy new school year!! My name is Melissa Kuhnke and I am looking forward to a year of learning, fun, and adventures in first grade. I have been teaching for 23 years and I feel truly lucky to do a job I am passionate about. This school year will be my fifth year at Jackson Elementary.

I grew up in Kenosha, WI and graduated from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee in 1999 with a degree in Elementary Education and a degree in Special Education. In 2004 I earned my master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus on Mathematics. Previously, I taught first grade at Gwen T. Jackson Elementary School in the Milwaukee Public Schools.

I currently live in East Troy with my husband (David), three daughters (Madeline, Sophia & Brynlee), cat (Winston), and dog (Mason). I love spending time and being creative with my family. We enjoy creating “masterpieces” out of paint, glue, and random materials. Camping, reading books, baking cookies, taking care of the garden, and exploring everything outside are just a few more examples of the things we enjoy doing together.
It is my goal to inspire students to be passionate about learning and to become life-long learners. I also aim to cultivate a community of learners who exercise self-control and who are understanding and compassionate toward one another.

I am excited and cannot wait to meet you! This is going to be a FANTASTIC year!
